Growing ball

The ball gets a little bigger with every bounce until it fills the whole circle. Each bounce plays the next note of Canon in D.

What happens

The ball starts with a radius of 26 pixels inside a circle of 440. Each bounce adds up to 8 pixels while the ball is small and less as it gets close to the wall, so the last few percent take the most bounces. The counter at the top shows how full the circle is. The ball always needs 104 bounces, but how long they take depends on the variation: between 15.6 to 23.4 seconds.

As the ball fills the circle there is less room to fall, so the bounces come faster and faster near the end. The scene keeps the speed up on purpose, so the last bounces sound like a drum roll before the ball locks in place.

What you hear

Each bounce plays the next melody note. Once the ball is a fifth of the way full, the Canon's bass line comes in underneath and follows the chord changes. Notes get shorter as the bounces speed up, and a full chord plays when the ball fills the circle.

Songs that fit

Canon in D is the default because its bass line already repeats in a loop, which suits a scene that builds steadily. Any melody works, and the faster bounces near the end will speed it up whatever you choose.
